Mission Indradhanush is a health mission of the Government of India which is started by Union Health Minister J. P. Nadda on 25 December 2014. Under which full immunization coverage will be provided to pregnant women and children at a rapid pace and At the national level, eight immunization preventable diseases have been covered under Mission Indradhanush such as Diphtheria, Whooping Cough, Tetanus, Polio, Measles, severe form of Childhood Tuberculosis and Hepatitis B and meningitis and pneumonia caused by Haemophilus influenza type B and against Rotavirus Diarrhea and Japanese Encephalitis in selected states and districts.

Prime Minister Mission Indradhanush Yojana 2022 – Immunization Programme Goal, Benefit, Features

Mission Indradhanush Phases:

This mission has been started by the government of India in the mode of ketchup campaign, a focused and systematic vaccination campaign which aims to cover all those children under Mission Indradhanush who have missed out on vaccination and pregnant women also will be vaccinated against tetanus during this program and ORS packets and zinc tablets will be distributed in critical condition. Under this scheme, four phases have been initiated by the government for the successful implementation of this scheme and the four (4) phases under Mission Indradhanush are as follows:

FIRST PHASE:

Around 201 districts have been covered in the first phase of Mission Indradhanush, Out of which 82 districts have been selected from the states of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh. Under Mission Indradhanush, The first phase was started on 7th April 2015 and around 75 lakh children of the country have been vaccinated under this phase. The main target of Mission Indradhanush first phase is to save children and pregnant women from being malnourished in the country and to provide free vaccination to them due to weak economic condition.

SECOND PHASE:

Under second phase of Mission Indradhanush 352 districts of the country have been covered and out of which 279 medium show colors districts and remaining seven (7) are high focus districts of Phase 1. The second phase of Mission Indradhanush was implimented in October 2015 and ran for a week and under this about 4 special campaigns were started. In the first and second phase of the Mission Indradhanush, about 1.48 crore children were covered and 38 pregnant women were vaccinated. The main aim of the government including various phases under this scheme is to provide the facility of vaccination in the second phase to the persons who have not been able to get the vaccination even in the first phase so that they do not have to fall prey to life threatening diseases.

THIRD PHASE:

The third phase of this scheme was launched on 7 April 2016 which about 216 districts of the country was covered in the third phase and Four Condensation Vaccination Grounds were organized in these districts for 7 days each between April and July 2016. These districts were identified on the basis of these estimates where the vaccination bridge is less than 7% and the high dropout rate is high and In addition to the child norm below two (2) years of age, it focused on increasing DPT booster coverage for children under five (5) years of age and giving tetanus toxoid injections to pregnant women.

FOURTH PHASE:

The fourth phase of Mission Indradhanush was launched on 7 February 2017 which covering the states of Arunachal Pradesh Assam Meghalaya Mizoram Nagaland Sikkim and Tripura, Simultaneously, it was rolled out throughout the rest of the country during April 2017. Under four phases of this mission, more than 2.53 crore children and 68 lakh pregnant women were vaccinated with life saving vaccines and During these phases the Ministry has to W.H.O. Technically supported by UNICEF Rotary International and Annadata Partnership.

 

Mission Indradhanush 4.0:

Recently on 7 February 2022, the Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya was launched Mission Indradhanush 4.0 which work is being done to remove the health related problems of about 3 crore women and 2.5 crore children by vaccinating them on a war footing. Under Mission Indradhanush 4.0, this scheme will be accomplished at the grassroot level in three rounds by identifying the districts of about 33 states and 416 union territories along with this, those 75 kg which were identified for the Amrit Mahotsav of Azadi will also be included.

  • First Round of Mission Indradhanush 4.0:

As you know, Mission Indradhanush 4.0 has been launched , its first round will run from February 2022 to April 2022, in which it will be operated by 11 states such as Assam, Gujarat, Uttarakhand, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Tripura, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Sikkim, Rajasthan, and Chhattisgarh have been included.

  • Second round of Mission Indradhanush 4.0:

The second round of Mission Indradhanush 4.0, it will be conducted from April 2022 to May 2022 which included 22 states which will operate it, in which union territories have also been included which are Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Delhi, Maharashtra, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Haryana, Bihar, Punjab, Odisha, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Telangana, Jharkhand, Kerala, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and West Bengal.

Objective Of Mission Indradhanush:

There are many such children in our country who are able to get vaccinated due to weak economic condition and they are surrounded by many diseases, so Keeping this in mind, Mission Indradhanush has been launched for the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare of India. The Mission Indradhanush will cover all children who have not been vaccinated or have been partially vaccinated against a vaccine-preventable disease and all children across the country will be provided with free life saving vaccines to protect them from deadly diseases.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush:

The Intensified Mission Indradhanush (IMI) was launched by the Central Government and intensify the Mission Indradhanush that had been launched in 2014 with a view to covering all children under the age of two and pregnant women for immunization who were not covered under the UIP.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2.0:

Mission Indradhanush has been launched by the Government of India in order to improve the vaccination coverage and to provide 90% more vaccination coverage. Mission Indradhanush campaign will partly reflect the government’s efforts under the Universal Immunization Program to reduce child mortality. So, Government plans to launch Intensified Mission Indradhanush 2.0 to boost vaccination and accelerate coverage of pregnant women and children as well as designed to manage the IMI 2.0 Portal for Data Reporting and Analysis.

Intensified Mission Indradhanush 3.0:

Government of India was started Insecticide Mission Indradhanush 3.0 in February 2020 with objective to increase immunization coverage and provide 90% complete immunization to children and women of the country and to reach the unreached population with respect to immunization and offer all the available vaccines under the Universal Immunisation Programme – UIP to all pregnant women and children under two years of age.
